EMMY® award-winning docuseries Life in Six Strings is the brainchild of award-winning music journalist, author, and presenter, Kylie Olsson. During the 2020 lockdowns, Olsson set out to learn guitar – documenting her journey to learn guitar from guitar greats in her “Life in Six Strings” YouTube series. But what began as a personal journey, soon evolved into something much deeper.

Life in Six Strings follows Olsson on a raw, unscripted journey as she sits down with the legends who helped define rock music. Together, they return to childhood hometowns and family homes, visit beloved local shops, and sitting inside the rooms where some of rock’s most legendary riffs were written.

Through cinematic production and intimate, character-driven storytelling, each episode offers rare access, candid conversations, and deep musical insight. With high-profile guests including the likes of Mick Mars, Rick Nielsen, Steve Vai, Andy Summers, Joe Bonamassa, and many more, Life In Six Strings gives viewers a glimpse into each artists’ origins – both musically and geographically – and sheds a light on the people behind the larger-than-life rockstar personas.

Following a successful initial run on AXS TV and SKY Arts in the US, Japan, New Zealand, and South America, Life In Six Strings returned to its YouTube roots in December 2025. Since its return, Kylie Olsson and Life in Six Strings has amassed more than 106,000 subscribers and 11.5 million views on the platform.

KYLIE OLSSON is an award-winning music journalist, author, presenter, and director. Throughout her career, Olsson has interviewed and collaborated with some of rock’s most influential artists – including the likes of KISS, The Rolling Stones, Def Leppard, and more – while working with outlets like BBC, MTV, and Universal.

Olsson notably served as host of the 2020 virtual Download Festival, produced celebrated rock docs for BBC, penned The Art of Metal and Rock: A Life Story, and sits on the voting committee for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

During the 2020 lockdowns, Olsson set out to learn guitar and began documenting the experience through her YouTube series, Life in Six Strings. Along the way, Olsson interviewed legendary rock musicians to get their insight and tips on playing guitar, and explore the stories behind their lives and careers. The digital series struck a chord with viewers – later evolving into a televised docuseries of the same namesake which aired on AXS TV and SKY Arts in the U.S., Japan, New Zealand, and South America. In 2024, Olsson and the series earned an EMMY® Award for Outstanding Arts & Entertainment, Long Form Content.

Olsson and Life In Six Strings returned to their YouTube roots in December 2025, quickly amassing over 105,000 subscribers and garnering over 11.5 million views.
